Thru the effort of the Secretary general ONG Leong Boon, the American Orthopaedic Association invited the ASEAN Orthopaedic Association in 1995, to a joint meeting. That 1st historic event was held in The Greenbrier, Roanoke, Virginia, USA. There were more than 50 ASEAN delegates from the 5 countries (founding member countries) who attended. Since then, the Presidents of the ASEAN Orthopaedic Association countries had been invited to the AOA Annual meeting held in the US. This has expanded the ASEAN connection and collaboration with US and North America. AOA-AOA TF to America happens every two years on even numbered years. Fellows from all AOA countries visit orthopaedic centers in the USA for three weeks and ends at the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) annual congress for that year. TFs must have at least three research papers to present during the Travelling Fellowship. This travelling fellowship was discontinued last 2019.
